Accrington Stanley win 5-0 at Rochdale, unbeaten in seven

A first away win was secured thanks to two goals from Tyler Walton with Josh Woods, Charlie Warren and Alex Henderson also on target in the biggest victory under boss John Doolan.

The only downside was an injury to top scorer Woods in the first half.

Doolan kept the same starting XI for the third successive game with Alex Henderson and Farrend Rawson returning to the bench after injury.

Louie Moulden and David Tutonda used to play for Rochdale while Dale had ex-Red loanee Sam Sherring in their starting XI.

Their first half was one to remember for the Reds as they piled on the pressure and created numerous chances, taking a 3-0 lead.

Stanley’s first chance came on 12 minutes from a Stefan Mols free kick but Warren could only guide the ball over the bar.

The Reds opened the scoring on 14 minutes when Sam Waller’s low goalkick was straight at Woods on the edge of the area and the in-form striker found space and fired home his seventh goal of the campaign.

Soon after a Mols corner was headed wide by Devon Matthews as Stanley piled on the pressure.

However, the Reds lost goal hero Woods to injury on 20 minutes, Henderson replacing him.

Moulden’s first save came on 21 minutes as he kept out Charlie Tasker’s strike at the near post.

But Stanley continued to boss the game, Henderson firing over just after and Walton also had a go from distance.

Rochdale enjoyed a spell of pressure, with their best chance Aden Flint heading over in the 35th minute.

Stanley scored a second on 38 minutes when Walton fed Warren outside the area and he raced forward and took it superbly to fire in off the post from the edge of the area.

Waller produced a strong save just after to deny Walton but he could do nothing about Walton’s next chance in the first minute of added time.

Walton got the ball just inside the area and clipped it beyond Waller, again bouncing in off the far post.

Stanley started the second half in the same vein, Henderson bursting through and Waller denying him.

It was four on 51 minutes when Anderson’s fierce drive was pushed out by Waller and Walton pounced on the loose ball for his double.

The Reds continued on the hunt for goals with Tutonda rifling over and it was five on 66 minutes when Henderson pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired home.

Dale’s Dajaune Brown shot just wide and narrowly over as they looked to get one back while Charlie Brown had a strike saved in added time as the Reds went for a sixth.

It was a third clean sheet in five EFL games for Stanley.
