The 22-year-old Irishman has been side-lined for the majority of the 2025/26 season after a series of injuries.

He suffered a knee injury in pre-season with Ruben Selles’ side in 2024 and missed the entire following campaign, before returning under Noel Hunt at the start of the 2025/26 season and made six senior appearances across the Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy.

The left-back then featured for the under-21s in Premier League 2, but picked up another injury after a 4-1 loss to Chelsea in November 2025 which ruled him out for the rest of the season. Despite his lack of game time, the club handed the young defender a contract extension at the end of last season, keeping him with the Royals for another year.

Leam Richardson said to The Reading Chronicle in August: "Obviously coming back after a couple of tough injuries, I think it's important that we looked after him and we give him that time to make sure he's not just available, but he comes back fit and available because that will stand him in good stead as well."

Ryan returned to action with the U21s in their 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers in September where he provided a crucial assist. He has made three appearances, one coming the Premier League Cup where he assisted in the 3-2 loss to Norwich.

A full-back with a wicked set-piece delivery, John will make the switch to National League South until January.

Hampton and Richmond Borough sit 22nd at the time of writing, with John hoping to help pull the Beavers away from relegation danger.

He could make his debut on Saturday as they host Truro City.
