Green said administrators Duff & Phelps offered to arrange contact with McCoist while he was trying to buy the Ibrox club in 2012.
Speaking on the Keys & Gray Unleashed podcast, Green said: “The receivers, Duff & Phelps, were saying to me, ‘Do you want to speak to Ally McCoist?’ I said, ‘Why?’ They said, ‘Well, he’s the manager.’”
Green said he declined because he had not yet completed the purchase.

“I said, ‘Yeah, but I’m nobody. I haven’t bought it’,” Green said. “[And they said]. ‘Well, everybody we’ve spoken to has wanted to be able to speak to Ally.’”
He said the decision contributed to a difficult relationship with McCoist during a period of change for the club.
Green said: “So I think that was an issue that I think Ally wasn’t happy that the first he heard of Charles Green was like everybody else when I was announced.”
McCoist remained Rangers manager as the club began rebuilding from the Third Division. Green then served as chief executive.
