Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo is in contention for Saturday's Premier League clash against Chelsea.
The England international has missed Man United's last four matches due to an unspecified injury, but he returned to training on Wednesday.
Carrick has now revealed that Mainoo is in contention to be involved against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
“[In terms of] good news, Kobbie has done a little bit of training yesterday. So, he's back and around the group, so that's obviously positive,” Carrick told reporters.
The 21-year-old has made eight appearances for Man United this season, contributing one assist, and his return has handed the Red Devils a much-needed boost.
Mainoo has four career appearances against Chelsea to his name, boasting a record of two wins and two defeats.
The midfielder came off the bench in Man United's 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford in September 2025, before playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge in the reverse game in April 2026.
Mainoo is expected to be back in the squad against Chelsea, but Benjamin Sesko, Manuel Ugarte, Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu remain on the sidelines.
Marcus Rashford is also a major doubt due to a hip issue, with the Englishman highly unlikely to be available for selection at Stamford Bridge.
Bruno Fernandes is expected to return to the Man United side following his clear-the-air talks with Carrick; the club captain was an unused substitute against Bournemouth last weekend but is set to be back in the XI at Stamford Bridge.
Lisandro Martinez could also return to the starting side at the back, while Matheus Cunha is in contention to feature from the first whistle.
Mainoo, though, is expected to be named on the bench, with his return to the field most likely coming off the bench.
