Crystal Palace keen on reunion with ‘this’ Tottenham midfielder who arrived in January 2026

Tottenham midfielder is attracting interest from Premier League clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

Conor Gallagher moved to Tottenham Hotspur from Atletico Madrid in the January 2026 transfer window. Frustrated with the lack of opportunities at Atletico Madrid, he decided to return to the Premier League at the start of the year.

The central midfielder has yet to fully convince the Tottenham fans and become a regular in Roberto De Zerbi’s XI. Things haven’t totally worked out as his minutes have often been limited this campaign, mainly due to the big-money summer signings of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. Add Rodrigo Bentancur to the equation as well, which has seen the 26-year-old start only three of his seven Premier League outings.

That has prompted links to a potential exit. Recent reports suggest that Everton, Leeds United and Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Gallagher’s situation at Tottenham ahead of the January transfer window. And now another Premier League club has joined the transfer race.

Crystal Palace plan to re-sign Conor Gallagher

According to a report from Football Insider, Crystal Palace are keen on a reunion with Gallagher. The midfielder spent the 2021/22 season on loan with Crystal Palace from Chelsea, netting eight goals in 34 Premier League games. It was the best spell of his career as he became a fan favourite at Selhurst Park.

Given his past history with the club and squad requirements, the Eagles could be tempted to reignite their interest in the Tottenham man. In fact, Crystal Palace were interested in bringing him back to the club before Gallagher moved to Spurs from Atletico Madrid. Now, the South Londoners might explore a move for the 26-year-old if the Lilywhites make him available for transfer.

“It is interesting to see the clubs who have been linked with Conor Gallagher if he is allowed to leave Tottenham,” Callum O’Connell told the Transfer Insider podcast (h/t Football Insider).

“I’ve heard Leeds and Everton both mentioned in the last couple of weeks, and I know that Crystal Palace are obviously long-term admirers of him as well.

“I think probably still it would be fair to say that he played his best football during that loan spell at Palace from Chelsea a couple of years ago. They wanted to sign him before he made that move to Tottenham, so it would surprise me if that interest has gone away, because he is very highly thought of there.

“So, it’ll be interesting to see if any of those clubs do try and tempt him away. But like you said, it is a bit of a surprise because he does definitely seem to still have a role at Tottenham.”

Will Tottenham sanction a mid-season departure?

It seems clear that Gallagher has admirers at Palace, who provided him with a fantastic opportunity in the 2021/22 season to develop his talent. The question will now be about a move and whether it can get done.

From Tottenham’s perspective, a mid-season departure looks unlikely. De Zerbi is an admirer of Gallagher’s talent and leadership skills, often highlighting the tactical versatility he provides in central and attacking midfield roles. The Italian is managing a competitive squad in N17, but with no European football this season and Tottenham already out of the EFL Cup, he has found it tough to provide Gallagher with regular playing opportunities.

Pierre Sage’s side might be aware that it’s unlikely they can sign the 22-cap England international in January, but they will not close the door completely and will continue monitoring his situation in North London post the November international break.
