Robin van Persie emerges as candidate for Premier League managerial job

Manchester United have seen several members of their famous title-winning teams move into management, with mixed fortunes as they attempt to recreate their success from the touchline.

For former players, the transition from being a dressing-room leader to carrying responsibility for an entire club can be a very different challenge.

Robin van Persie knows what it takes to deliver under pressure, having experienced the demands of competing for major honours at the highest level.

His time at Old Trafford was brief compared with some of United’s other modern greats, but his impact was immediate.

The Dutchman arrived during Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season and helped deliver one of the most memorable Premier League seasons in the club’s history.

His coaching career has since taken him back to the Netherlands, where he has already experienced both the rewards and risks of managing a major club.

Now, his next move could bring him back into the English football spotlight.

Robin van Persie emerges as candidate for Premier League managerial job

Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is attracting interest from clubs across Europe, with a possible return to the Premier League being discussed following his departure from Feyenoord.

According to De Telegraaf, Robin van Persie is not expected to rush into another managerial position and could wait until 2027 before returning to work.

Nottingham Forest have emerged in the conversation amid reports of pressure surrounding their manager, Oliver Glasner, as the club struggles near the bottom of the Premier League table.

However, there is no confirmation that Forest have made a formal approach for Van Persie.

Feyenoord correspondent Marcel van der Kraan has also warned that taking charge of a club battling relegation midway through a season can be a difficult proposition, particularly when expectations from the ownership are high.

Van Persie is therefore expected to weigh up his next opportunity carefully rather than immediately accept the first offer that arrives.

His managerial journey began with Feyenoord’s youth teams before he moved into senior management at Heerenveen in 2024.

He returned to Feyenoord in February 2025, taking charge of the first team after leaving Heerenveen.

Although he guided the Rotterdam club to second place in the Eredivisie and qualification for the Champions League, the club dismissed him in June 2026 following concerns over performances and a decline in results in domestic and European competition.

Van Persie’s next decision could define the early years of his managerial career.

A Premier League appointment would offer him the chance to test himself in the country where he enjoyed his greatest playing success, but taking over a struggling side could bring immediate pressure and limited time to implement his ideas.
