49ers GM has concerning updates on Mike Evans, Nick Bosa for Week 7

The San Francisco 49ers aren’t ruling out Mike Evans or Nick Bosa for Week 7 at Atlanta, but neither is a sure thing.

Speaking with KNBR on Thursday, San Francisco general manager John Lynch was asked whether Evans is unlikely to play against the Falcons. He said that’s not the case.

“I wouldn’t say not likely. I think it’s still TBD,” Lynch said. “We’ve got a couple more days. We’re going to take every bit of those to try to ascertain where Mike’s at. He’s done a really good job treating this thing. And obviously we know of Mike’s toughness. So we’ll let these next couple days play out and make a decision when we have to. Mike’s that type of player that you wait, you let the process play itself out, and we’ll see where we’re at at the end of the week.”

Evans is dealing with Achilles tendinitis, which flared up in Monday night’s win over the Commanders. Evans left midway through the game. He has 27 catches for 420 yards and three touchdowns through six games.

Asked whether next week’s bye affects the decision, Lynch said the approach doesn’t change.

“You try to win every game in this league,” he said. “And so if our players are healthy and we feel good about their ability to not put themselves in more harm and go affect the game in a positive way, that’s what you do in this league.”

Bosa has missed the last four games with a calf injury suffered before the Week 3 game against the Cardinals, but Lynch said he is in a similar spot as Evans when it comes to his availability in Wek 7 before the bye in Week 8.

“We will evaluate Nick here in the next couple days,” Lynch added.

Evans would be a big loss for a 49ers' offense reeling from injuries. The team has lost several other pass-catchers, from Deebo Samuel to Demarcus Robinson to De'Zhaun Stribling in Week 1 and Ricky Pearsall before the year even began. The defense has fared OK without Bosa, but it's always good to get back a key cog in the defensive front.
