Oxford City Women back to winning ways with Beaconsfield victory

Three second-half goals from Kate Parsons, Hermione Prescott-Luke and Yasmin Edwards secured the points at the MGroup Stadium after a goalless opening 45 minutes on Sunday afternoon (October 18).

City controlled much of the first half and created several opportunities from Parsons' corners as the hosts searched for an opening goal.

Edwards went close twice, first directing a header towards goal from a 15th-minute corner, only for Beaconsfield to deflect the attempt wide.

Parsons and Edwards combined again moments later, but the latter's first-time effort was blocked by the visiting defence.

Billie Bough-French had earlier tried her luck from distance, sending an attempt wide during the opening 10 minutes.

Beaconsfield created fewer opportunities, although Oxford goalkeeper Aimee Flood was required to make a comfortable save in the 19th minute.

Reese Ayres then made a well-timed tackle shortly afterwards to prevent another Beaconsfield attack from developing into a one-on-one opportunity.

City continued to have the better of possession without finding a breakthrough and came particularly close after 34 minutes.

Emily Harris met the ball at the back post and saw her header strike both the post and crossbar before rebounding back into the penalty area.

Sophie Lester also threatened shortly before the interval, firing narrowly wide of the top corner from inside the area as the teams went into half-time level.

Oxford resumed on the front foot after the restart, with Harris hitting the post before substitute Janaye Beaufort fired wide from distance.

City finally broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute through Parsons.

A delivery from Meira Ashby was only partially cleared by Beaconsfield, allowing Parsons to collect possession, beat a defender and finish into the far corner.

Prescott-Luke doubled City's advantage 12 minutes later after previously seeing a powerful attempt saved.

Her next effort beat the goalkeeper and went in off the underside of the crossbar to put City firmly in control.

Oxford thought they had scored again when the ball was forced home at the back post, but the effort was ruled out by the assistant referee's flag.

A third goal eventually arrived in the 82nd minute when Beaconsfield lost possession in defence and Edwards capitalised by finishing the opportunity to make it 3-0.

There was no further scoring as City saw out the closing stages to complete the victory.

After being held goalless despite creating chances during the opening period, Oxford produced the decisive finishing after the break, with Parsons' opener followed by strikes from Prescott-Luke and Edwards to secure all three points and complete a comfortable home victory after a much more clinical second-half display.
