It was a night to forget for AC Milan on the south coast as they lost 3-0 to Bournemouth in the Europa League on Thursday.
Things started badly when Koni De Winter handled a shot that resulted in a penalty which Justin Kluivert converted, then he was given a second chance from the spot when Mike Maignan shoved Tyler Adams in the face, and he made no mistake.
Amine Adli curled in a free-kick to put the result beyond doubt inside the final 10 minutes on what was a dismal night for the Rossoneri, who have now lost two of their three European games.
Below are how the front pages look in Italy this morning, and it would be fair to say they are not complimentary in the slightest.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan sink. Maignan sent off, a questionable penalty awarded. Down to 10 men, the Rossoneri collapse and lose 3-0. They now sit in 24th place. Amorim points the finger at his goalkeeper.”
Corriere dello Sport: “Maignan causes trouble. Kluivert opens the scoring from the penalty spot. Mike hits Adams inside the box: a red card in the 28th minute and another penalty. Tavernier beats Torriani. Then comes Adli’s goal.”
Tuttosport: “Maignan’s moment of madness. Milan sink. With the score at 1-0, the goalkeeper puts his hands in Adams’ face and is sent off, leaving the Rossoneri down to 10 men for over an hour and at the mercy of the English side. This second European defeat is a heavy blow.”
QS: “Milan in the red. Goals rain in. Europa League: Maignan sent off, Bournemouth run riot in a 3-0 win.”
