Paris Saint-Germain announced that star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ruptured the ACL in his right knee during a Champions League match against Barcelona on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Kvaratskhelia was substituted in the second half of PSG's 4-2 win after landing awkwardly following a collision with Barcelona defender Xavi Espart.
The Georgian winger was one of three PSG mainstays who were injured during the match, alongside reigning Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé and defender Marquinhos.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, PSG provided updates on all three players.
"Having suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday's match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days," the two-time defending Champions League winner said.
The club added: "Following a left thigh injury, Ousmane Dembélé will remain under treatment for the next few weeks. Following a right thigh injury, Marquinhos will remain under treatment for the next few weeks."
The loss of Kvaratskhelia for the remainder of the 2026-27 season, or at least the majority of it, is a major blow for PSG as the club looks to repeat as Ligue 1 and Champions League champion.
The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the world's best at his position, tallying 29 goals and 20 assists in 91 games for PSG.
Kvaratskhelia finished 12th in the 2025 Ballon d'Or voting and is among the 30 finalists for the 2026 award.
PSG did not announce a timetable for Kvaratskhelia's return, only saying that the winger will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Recovery from ACL surgery typically takes around nine months, though the winger could return sooner or later depending on the severity of the injury and progress in his rehab.
