Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Saturday that ODI skipper Litton Kumar Das is ruled out of the ongoing tri-nation series in UAE involving Zimbabwe and Afghanistan due to a hip injury.

Litton, who was expected to be at the toss alongside Zimbabwean skipper Sikandar Raza and begin his tenure as Bangladesh’s full-time ODI captain, was ruled out at the last minute after he failed to pass the fitness test ahead of the game.

BCB physiotherapist Bayejedul Islam Khan said Litton reported pain in his right hip joint on Friday, prompting the team management to arrange an MRI scan that showed a problem in the joint that will keep him out of the tri-nation series.

“Litton Kumar Das complained of pain in his right hip joint yesterday. We conducted an MRI, and the report showed that he has a problem in the right hip joint,” Bayejedul said in a video message released by the BCB.

“He still tried to complete the fitness test today to see whether he could play. However, he could not meet the benchmark we wanted, so he is not available for this series,” Bayejedul added.

ODI vice-captain Towhid Hridoy will lead the side in Litton’s absence.

Meanwhile, BCB officials said they are not ruling out Mehidy Hasan Miraj from the tri-series despite the fact he did not come to the stadium, remaining at the hotel due to fever.

Cricbuzz earlier reported Mehidy is suffering from fever, which forced the team management to give him rest during the practice session. A board’s official confirmed to this website that he is yet to recover fully.

“Mehidy is suffering from fever for three days and as a result he is not available for today's match (against Zimbabwe) but he is not ruled out yet as we are expecting him to recover at some point during the tri-nation unless his condition deteriorates drastically,” said the official.

Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan in their next game of the tri-series on October 21.
