After the latest catastrophic update, the Oklahoma City Thunder have pivoted on their next roster move. They will no longer sign Ochai Agbaji to a standard roster spot deal, per ESPN's Shams Charania. The NBA insider noted that they're evaluating all options following Chet Holmgren's upcoming two-plus-month absence.
Well, that's interesting. The Thunder had reportedly signed Agbaji to a deal on Friday. He was supposed to fill the vacant 15th roster spot. Now, that's no longer happening. Remains to be seen if/when they bring in a new NBA body. Right now, OKC badly needs help.
Agbaji had spent the last four seasons in the NBA on the Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets. He was the No. 14 pick of the 2022 NBA draft. The 26-year-old averaged 5.1 points and 2.3 rebounds this past season.
The Thunder are currently navigating their new grim reality. Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace are out for most — if not all — of the 2026-27 season. Williams sustained a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle. Wallace sustained a torn labrum on his shoulder. Both required surgery and will be re-evaluated before the 2027 NBA playoffs.
Meanwhile, Holmgren will miss 8-to-10 weeks with a small torn patellar tendon. He also sustained that injury in OKC's consequential win over the LA Clippers. He had a biological treatment done to address the ongoing knee discomfort.
