Ohio University directly benefited from Ohio State football's 19-15 victory over Indiana.
Because of the Hoosiers' defeat, the Bobcats now own the longest home win streak in the FBS, with 17 straight victories at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium.
The Hoosiers owned a 19-game home win streak, which began in a season opener against Florida Atlantic University on Aug. 31, 2024. The game was also the first of head coach Curt Cignetti's Indiana tenure.
Ohio sits on top of the MAC at 6-2 with a 4-0 record in conference play. The Bobcats' losses were on the road against nonconference opponents Nebraska and South Alabama.
When Ohio University named the football field in Peden Stadium after legendary coach Frank Solich in 2022, the Bobcats won their next 10 home games. After losing to Miami on Oct. 28, 2023, the Bobcats bounced back two weeks later and beat Central Michigan 34-20 in Athens, kicking off the current stretch.
In other words, the Bobcats have won 26 of 27 home games on Frank Solich Field.
John Hauser, who took over as Ohio's interim head coach last December, has seen success in his first season officially installed in the role. The former Bobcats defensive coordinator has Ohio allowing the third-fewest points to opponents per game (21.6) while scoring the second-most points per game (29.6) in the conference. The Bobcats are averaging a conference-high rushing 192.4 yards per game.
The Bobcats are still quite far from the historical record. Miami (FL) won 58 home games in a row from 1985 to 1994.
The Bobcats are off in Week 9 and play back-to-back road games after the break. They return home on Tuesday, Nov. 17 for a matchup against the Ball State Cardinals.
