Derek McInnes having his tummy tickled by Jeff Stelling and his old pal Ally McCoist on the radio first thing on Monday morning was indicative of the shift in the balance of power that is underway within the Old Firm.
A “love in” between McInnes and Coisty, was how the venerable Jeff described the discussion.
Everyone knows how the game works.
It was the morning after Celtic had lost to Falkirk in the league and less than 48 hours after Rangers reached the Premier Sports Cup Final at Aberdeen’s expense.
You milk the moment for all it’s worth. If you have any sense.
But with a shift in power there comes a level of scrutiny in keeping with a city whose unofficial motto is: “A draw is a disaster, a defeat is a catastrophe.”
The pressure mounts on McInnes as the gloom gathers around Martin O’Neill at Celtic Park.
The question now has nothing to do with whether or not Rangers can win the Premiership title.
The question is, more accurately to my way of thinking, how can they fail to win the title under the prevailing circumstances?
