Virat Kohli ignored calls, messages: Amit Mishra blames ex-India captain for crushing comeback hopes
PC: Twitter/X

Amit Mishra has been one of the finest leg-spinners that India has ever produced, but unfortunately he has not played to his full potential in the India National Cricket Team. Despite being a match-winner in the IPL, he has not been preferred in the national side. Now he has revealed a shocking fact about how he was pushed out of the team.

Amit has been appointed as the spin bowling coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC) side ahead of the IPL 2027. He will work alongside Sourav Ganguly, the head coach, Yuvraj Singh, the batting coach, and Chaminda Vaas, the pace bowling coach. He will look to develop the side's young spinners.

Amit Mishra takes swipe at Virat Kohli

While speaking on former India batter Aakash Chopra’s YouTube show ‘Baith and Bol’, Amit Mishra shared his experience of being treated poorly by Virat Kohli during his comeback from injury; he revealed how he was given false hopes by the former India captain at that time.

"When I was injured Anil bhai (Anil Kumble) was the coach. I told Anil bhai; he said don't worry once you will be fit, you will automatically come back. Virat Kohli was the captain after that. I asked Virat Kohli, What do you want to do?, He replied, don't worry, once you get fit and you are there."

Amit Mishra calls Virat Kohli a liar

In the same video, Amit Mishra said that he called and messaged Virat Kohli multiple times, but he never replied to any of that, adding that he said after a certain point of time he lost hope, and he also mentioned that players who were injured long back even before him made comeback to the team but he did not return.

"So I went to him. I said, What is the situation? He said, I will tell you in a week or ten days. Then a week passed, two weeks, three weeks, passed but I didn't get anything. I called him, but he didn't pick up the call. I messaged him, but he didn't reply."

"Then again I called and messaged but there was no reply after that, I left the hope and what can we do? When he doesn't want to reply. There have been instances where more people than me got injured, got injured for a longer period; they came back, but I never got an answer."

Amit Mishra's career

Mishra made his Test debut in 2008 against Australia, taking 5/71 in the first innings to help India win the match. He also, in 2013, equalled Javagal Srinath's record for the most wickets (18) in a bilateral ODI series against Zimbabwe. In 22 Test matches, he picked 76 wickets.

He featured in 36 ODIs, where he picked 64 wickets, and in 10 T20Is, he picked 16 wickets. Amit was part of the 2014 T20 World Cup squad that finished as runners-up; he took 10 wickets in the tournament. In the IPL, he picked 174 wickets and is in the top 10 highest wicket-takers list of the tournament.
