Manchester United’s search for stability has become a growing concern as pressure mounts on Michael Carrick following a difficult run of results.
The club’s 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como has intensified questions about the direction of the team and whether a change in leadership could be needed.
United have struggled to find consistency, leaving the Old Trafford hierarchy facing difficult decisions about the club’s future.
Attention has now shifted towards potential successors who could bring a fresh identity and rebuild confidence within the squad.
Brighton have become an interesting reference point, with their progress under Fabian Hurzeler offering a contrast to United’s current difficulties.
The German coach has steadily built his reputation in English football since arriving from St Pauli in 2024.
However, Brighton are confident they can keep hold of Fabian Hurzeler even if Manchester United make an approach for their highly rated manager, as reported by the Sun.
United’s interest in Hurzeler is not entirely new.
Reports earlier this month identified the Brighton boss as a leading candidate on the club’s shortlist should they decide to part ways with Carrick.
Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has also backed Hurzeler as a potential appointment, placing him among the names United could consider.
There are understandable reasons for Brighton’s confidence.
Hurzeler’s side enjoyed an outstanding September, recording victories over Arsenal and Coventry City before drawing with Leeds United.
Their 3-0 win against Arsenal was particularly impressive, while the performances earned Hurzeler the Premier League Manager of the Month award for a second time.
Brighton climbed to third in the table, scoring nine goals and conceding just once across those three league matches.
Hurzeler’s rise has been remarkable.
After joining St Pauli’s coaching staff in 2020, he took charge of the first team and guided the German club to the 2. Bundesliga title in 2023/24.
Brighton subsequently appointed him in June 2024, making him the youngest full-time head coach in Premier League history at the time.
Reports suggest Brighton are relaxed about the prospect of losing their manager, who is said to be happy with the project on the south coast.
Hurzeler is also reportedly without a release clause, potentially leaving United needing to negotiate directly with Brighton if they pursue him.
