Liverpool have the finances to sign Bayern Munich and France superstar Michael Olise, according to a massive claim from former Everton CEO Keith Wyness.
The 25-year-old is in stunning form for both club and country at the moment, with former defender Willy Sagnol paying him huge praise by saying he is unrivalled in the game:
“Olise is the best in the world, far ahead of all other players. If he doesn’t win the Ballon d’Or at the end of the year, something is seriously wrong with football.”
“Yeah, I think we looked at the Turkish Airlines deal coming onto the shirt next season and the good revenue situation that Liverpool are in, so I think there’s no question they could afford to do it.
“The bigger question for me is, should they be doing it right now? They’ve got Barcola and Wirtz, both £100m-plus purchases, and they’re both not really firing yet; then it becomes a real gamble in that sense, bringing another one in.
“I think they’ve got to try and get Barcola firing by January and Wirtz firing soon after. Then if you were to bring in Olise next summer, then that would make sense; then you’ve suddenly got things going.
“In terms of the financial side, there’s not an issue, I don’t think, with Liverpool being able to do it, and with SCR headroom as well, I don’t see an issue there. It’s more about the football side, and you don’t want another one coming in with the pressure all on him to try and salvage the other two.”
It is hard to argue with Sagnol’s case regarding Olise being the best footballer on the planet right now, even though others are in the mix, from Kylian Mbappe to Lamine Yamal.
But the Frenchman is a rare example of being both a joy to watch, weaving in and out of tackles, and also producing a relentless and world-class level of end product.
Olise has already scored six goals for Bayern in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined this season, while at international level, he has netted four times in the UEFA Nations League.
The winger is Liverpool’s perfect possible option to replace Mohamed Salah, with the void left by the Egyptian not yet filled, despite the best efforts of Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz.
He will cost an extraordinary amount of money, as that’s if Bayern even consider selling him, but he would be worth breaking the club’s transfer record for, given his age and talent.
As things stand, it feels far more likely that Olise will remain at Bayern beyond 2027- he appears to be happy there – but it is encouraging to hear that it might not be out of the question financially for Liverpool as their ownership situation gradually changes.
