Alexander Volkanovski has proposed his own Hollywood ending to his Hall-of- Fame-worthy career – which is fitting after his standout cameo in the new Street Fighter movie.
‘The Great’ is already seen by many as the greatest leading man of all time in the featherweight division – and he passed his latest screen test with a dominant win over Movsar Evloev at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi.
The Aussie has now made a record nine defences of the 145lb crown, having regained the title last April after it was vacated by Ilia Topuria. However, the 38-year-old, despite his second-round KO of the previously undefeated Evloev, knows the end credits will soon roll on his time in the Octagon and wants to go out with a bang.

Proposing a ‘super fight’ with lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, who is also contemplating retirement, Volkanovski said: “I’m an honest guy and I want it to be fair. I don’t want to hold divisions up, but I believe that we could do this and not hold them up.
“Whether it’s both our retirement fight and we put it all on the line, which would be cool, a bit of a ‘super fight’, a couple of 38 year olds just going at it… then we’ll leave it all to the young fellas to sort out.
“That’s something I would retire for. If they wanted to give me that opportunity, I would, win or lose, retire. Otherwise, I’m just taking each fight as it goes.
“We’re trying to see what the options are, but it is not very often that you get Dana White, the UFC president, sitting here saying, ‘Oh, we’ll give him pretty much whatever he wants’. Do I just take advantage of that? I want to do it the right way. We’ll see what happens.”
Volkanovski, who will celebrate 10 years in the company next month, is already exploring his options outside MMA, having started a successful YouTube show called ‘Cooking with Volk’.
The Windang, New South Wales, wonder is also up for more acting roles after playing Joe, a former US kickboxing champion, in Street Fighter.
Having arrived in character, sporting a shock of blonde hair, for the pre-fight press conference in Abu Dhabi, he told the UFC: “It was incredible, especially for my first time doing something that high production.
“I’ve done my own ads and skits, and had fun with things like that, but never something like that.
“But I was comfortable doing that sort of stuff, to be honest. I don’t mind being in front of the camera.
“I couldn’t play a big part, because I had to fight just before in Sydney, but I think for a small part, it packed a bit of a punch.”
