The Minnesota Vikings made a pair of moves at tight end on Wednesday, and one of the names should sound familiar to anyone who followed training camp in Eagan.

The position has been thin since Josh Oliver tore his biceps in Week 3. Minnesota moved him to injured reserve on Sept. 29, and he is expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

That leaves TJ Hockenson, Gavin Bartholomew and Ben Yurosek as the only tight ends on the active roster, with what’s expected to be a football bloodbath on deck in Detroit on Sunday.

Vikings sign two tight ends to practice squad, including Bryson Nesbit

The practice squad took a hit at the spot this week, too, when the Cincinnati Bengals signed tight end Cam Grandy off Minnesota’s practice squad and wide receiver Michael Briscoe went on the practice squad/injured list. That opened two spots, and the Vikings filled both with tight ends — Bryson Nesbit and Devin Culp.

Nesbit is no stranger to TCO Performance Center. The 24-year-old signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina in 2025 and spent last season on the practice squad. The Vikings then kept him around on a reserve/future contract on Jan. 5.

He made it through the summer, catching three passes for 29 yards in the 2026 preseason, but his camp ended with an injury. Minnesota waived him with an injury designation on Aug. 30 and released him with an injury settlement the next day. At North Carolina, Nesbit put up 107 catches for 1,510 yards and 13 touchdowns over four seasons.

Get to know former Bucs TE Devin Culp

Culp is the new face. The 26-year-old (6-foot-4, 237 pounds) played at Washington, where he caught 66 passes for 711 yards and four touchdowns, before Tampa Bay took him in the seventh round, 246th overall, in the 2024 NFL Draft. He ran a 4.47 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine, the fastest time by any tight end there.

Over two seasons with the Buccaneers, Culp played in 18 games and caught six passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Tampa Bay waived him on Aug. 31 and had him on its practice squad for two days in early September.

He then spent a week on the Cleveland Browns practice squad this month, from Oct. 13 until his release on Oct. 20. Culp will wear No. 82 in Minnesota.
