Nottingham Forest lost a third consecutive game in the Premier League as Arsenal claimed a big three points at the City Ground.
Noni Madueke scored the game’s only goal, with his extremely fortunate goal crashing into the net with just 10 minutes to play, with Forest’s luck firmly out.
Oliver Glasner must be forgiven for feeling extremely concerned. Forest now face tough games away from home against Ipswich and Brentford before welcoming Manchester City to Trentside.
After the game, Roy Keane delivered some harsh words to one Forest player and also had some very positive advice for £50 million signing Liam Delap.
It’s hard to be too critical of Wood given that he’s now 34-years-old and isn’t considered the first-choice striker in the team since Delap’s arrival.
The New Zealand international did waste a golden chance near the end to restore parity in the second half and the fact he didn’t even manage to get a shot away was pretty criminal.
Keane said live on Sky Sports: “Forest stuck at it. Chris Wood had the big opportunity. Why he doesn’t take a touch onto his right foot? He’s an experienced player.
“These opportunities will give them a lot of praise, but you have to test the goalkeeper. You’ve got to hit the target.
“The manager must be so frustrated. They’ll be lacking confidence.
“They paid a lot of money for Liam Delap. He’s a young kid, he’s an honest lad, he’s sticking at it, but it’s a tough position to play in the team. It’s a tough role for him, but he has to tidy up his play. He has to add a little bit more quality.”
Glasner desperately needs one of the strikers to stand up and be counted in the coming weeks. Forest have now dropped into the bottom three of the Premier League table, and with other teams starting to play well, it’s vital that points are claimed and goals are scored.
