South Africa have won the third Test match against Australia and thus have won the series 2-1. Temba Bavuma’s side made a brilliant comeback to the series after losing the first game. After Australia’s collapse in the second innings of the third Test match, former Australia opener David Warner has taken a swipe at the whole batting unit of the team.
Temba Bavuma’s side made an incredible comeback in the series; they lost the first Test by 214 runs, and in the second game the chips were down when the captain played a solid knock and helped the side to win the game. In the third Test match, the bowling department of the home side took control and won the game.
While speaking on Fox Sports, former Australia captain David Warner slammed the whole batting unit of the Australia National Cricket Team, as David Warner felt that this was not the way Australia plays and called it ‘un-Australian’ as they did not show any fight in the Test match, as they failed to chase down the target of 288 runs.
David Warner said (as quoted by Cricbuzz), "I am just upset. It’s terrible. It’s un-Australian. There’s no fight whatsoever. It’s disgraceful. 288, you win the Test match, you could win the series. It’s on the line and this is the way that they’re playing."
"I think it is deplorable. The batters have let the bowlers down whole series. Yes, Matt Renshaw showed fight in that first Test, but I think the batters have been disgraceful. Utterly disgraceful," David Warner further added.
Australia in the game won the toss and opted to field first. South Africa had a brilliant start as the openers, Marques Ackerman and Aiden Markram, scored 158 runs for the first wicket. The former scored 95 runs, and Markram scored 70, then a collapse in the middle order as they scored 329 runs, with Mitchell Starc picking up 6 wickets.
The Aussies had a decent start as they took a lead of 100 runs in the first innings, scoring 429 runs, with Josh Inglis scoring 102, Alex Carey’s 80, Cameron Green’s 65, and Matt Renshaw’s 70 helping the side to take a good lead.
In the second innings, it was a masterclass of Ryan Rickelton and Wiaan Mulder as the two scored 101 runs and 115 runs, respectively, and helped the side to post a target of 288 runs for the Kangaroos.
The visitors did not have the best of starts as they lost Matt Renshaw in the first ball of the second innings, in the first over, and then in the same over Marnus Labuschagne also went back for four runs. From there, they never recovered as they kept on losing wickets.
Cameron Green stuck at one end as the Kangaroos tried to put up a fight, but they were 60/7 at the end of the first session. Green departed soon after lunch on 27 runs, then Nathan Lyon stitched a small 45-run partnership with captain Pat Cummins. Lyon scored 33 runs and was the leading scorer as they were bowled out for 111 runs.
