The Estevao plotline at Chelsea has been bubbling away all season, and came to a head on Wednesday night when he didn’t get a single minute against Liverpool.

Xabi Alonso was asked about his decision to not use the winger after the game and brushed the questions off. But the journalists were back today for the Man U preview and had more queries about the Brazilian and whether he was upset about his total lack of usage under the new manager,

“Yeah, of course,” Alonso admitted when asked if he thought the winger was frustrated.

“It’s no secret that all players want to be on the pitch, they want to be playing, and when any of them haven’t had enough minutes because of my decision, I have to take the responsibility for that, that they are not as happy as they could.

“But everyone has to be ready because in any game they could be important, they could be part of the team, and Este, his training and his attitude has been good. Like Valentin Barco, like Marco Palestra, like Danny Welbeck, all these players that have not been that regular, but this is football and this is a squad and this is a team.”

He’s still saying “there’s nothing to see here” and insisting that Estevao’s chance will come.

In other news…

Xabi Alonso told the media today that he had spoken to Palmer after his red card a week ago – but was clear it wasn’t a telling off.

Maxence Lacroix won’t feature in tomorrow’s game, or any others for around a month after Alonso confirmed his hamstring injury.
