Breer: Patriots' pie-in-the-sky trade targets ahead of deadline

Khalil Mack, Jeffery Simmons, and Quenton Nelson would certainly be welcome additions in New England.

It's been stated many, many times over many, many years: The NFL trade deadline is not quite as chaotic as the trade deadlines in other professional sports leagues.

Still, deals do get done every day. And with the Patriots' lack of depth being a compounded issue due to all of their injuries, the New England front office may have to get aggressive ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline.

With that in mind, SI's Albert Breer was asked on Patriots Pregame Live where the Patriots might look to make an addition or two to the battered roster. Breer offered up a caveat that things could change in the coming weeks, but looking at the standings now, some teams may be willing to make some deals.

Los Angeles Chargers

EDGE Khalil Mack
WR Quentin Johnston

"The Chargers would be one [candidate]. Obviously, they're 0-6. They don't have a game this week, and what's looming coming out of their bye -- the Rams, the Texans, the Ravens -- you could very easily see them getting to 0-9. So would a Khalil Mack be available? That's somebody that you could bring in to help your pass rush. I think stylistically he would really fit Mike Vrabel as a bigger, more rugged edge. Quentin Johnston's another player that you could look at, somebody that may not have a future in Los Angeles."

Tennessee Titans

DT Jeffery Simmons

"The Titans are another team. Mike Vrabel loves Jeffery Simmons. Is that your your pie-in-the-sky type of swing?"

Miami Dolphins

LB Jordyn Brooks

"The Dolphins, I don't know if there'd be a trade in-division. Jordyn Brooks, a really productive linebacker, who I I think would fit."

Indianapolis Colts

DT DeForest Buckner
RB Jonathan Taylor
S Cam Bynum
G Quenton Nelson

"The Colts are the really interesting one because they just fired their general manager, Chris Ballard. Now, how that goes is going to be determined by ownership. We saw last year when the Dolphins fired Chris Grier, almost immediately they traded Jaelan Phillips. Could that happen here if things don't go well for the [2-4] Colts on Sunday [at Minnesota]? I certainly think that's in play, and they've got some older players that you could really look at. DeForest Buckner is one. Another one certainly would be Jonathan Taylor, Cam Bynum, and then one I'd just kind of keep an eye on for the Patriots because they do have the injury issues at guard right now, Quenton Nelson. Obviously a multi-time All-Pro, perhaps a future Hall of Famer. If he becomes available and the Patriots' injury situation doesn't get better at guard, maybe that's somebody that you could look at."
