Webster's Haley Winn returns to Team USA for another gold-medal run

Haley Winn helped the United States secure a gold medal in women's hockey at the Olympics nine months ago. This week, the Webster native again dons the red, white and blue.

Winn was named to Team USA's roster for the International Ice Hockey Federation women's world championships in Denmark. The defenseman is one of three players from New York state to earn a spot on the team.

Team USA opens play against Switzerland on Friday. The first round continues against Germany on Sunday, Austria on Monday and Czechia on Wednesday.

The Americans have reached the gold medal game in all 24 editions of the IIHF women's world championship, and have won gold in seven of the last 10 tournaments.

Winn enters the tournament as one of Team USA's top defensemen. The 23-year-old made her professional debut last winter for the PWHL's Boston Fleet and won the league's rookie of the year award with 19 points in 30 games while leading the league in ice time.

This is her fourth world championship appearance. Winn won gold in 2023 and 2025, and silver in 2024. In her Olympics debut in February, Winn posted one goal and three assists in seven games.

After the world championships, Winn will reconvene with the Fleet whose regular season schedule begins Dec. 6.
