Presteigne St Andrews beat Hay St Mary’s 4-1 in thriller

This win was a first competitive victory over Hay St Mary's during this decade.

The fixture against the reigning Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) champions was played at Llanandras Park.

The Saints fell behind after seven minutes when Aiden Rhodes’ shot deflected off Gabe Moore and beat goalkeeper Tom Lewis at his near post.

Hay doubled their advantage in the 26th minute, Liam Tomkins heading a corner in at the near post.

The visitors struggled to respond as the home side defended its lead, with the visitors missing several regulars.

Rhodes struck again in the 69th minute, running on to a well-timed pass, rounding Lewis and finishing into an empty net.

Six minutes later, substitute Merv Stephens converted a penalty after Ed Walkden brought down Jude Horton in the area.

Hay St Mary’s pulled one back in the 87th minute when Charlie Ward surged into the area and squared for Taylor Maddy to score at the far post.

The result moved the East Radnor club closer to Llandrindod Wells, with a game in hand.
