‘There are far more serious issues to deal with than organising a match’ – Franck Haise refuses to ‘complain’ about Stade Rennais rescheduled matches in light of current context in France

As the ninth round of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season is about to get underway, no fewer than three of the nine league fixtures scheduled for this weekend have had their timings disrupted due to industrial action planned across much of France.

Among them is the match between OGC Nice and Stade Rennais FC, originally scheduled for Saturday but ultimately brought forward to this Friday. This change inevitably means the clubs involved must prepare differently, but Franck Haise, the Rouge et Noir’s manager, has no intention of complaining about it.

“We’re not going to complain about missing a training session or having a match in the afternoon…,” he said on this subject at a press conference on the eve of Rennes’ trip to the Côte d’Azur. “If that happens, it’s because there are far more serious issues to resolve at the moment in France than rescheduling a match. Football is a sport, designed to create positive emotions, but that’s all it is.”

Scheduled for next Thursday, the Europa League match between the Breton side and Olympiacos has also been affected by this postponement (it will now be played on Wednesday at 4.30 pm), whilst further protests are expected on 5th November. A situation deemed “a nuisance for the public and the supporters”, but accepted by Haise given the alternative of “playing abroad”, to which “a response was given quickly”.
