Jordyn Tyson made the trip to Paris. His NFL debut will have to wait.
The New Orleans Saints will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7 without their first-round receiver, whose hamstring injury has kept him sidelined since August. Traveling overseas raised hopes that Tyson might finally be close to playing, but general manager Mickey Loomis shut down that possibility for this matchup.
Tyson injured his right hamstring during an Aug. 13 joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The injury interrupted his first NFL training camp, and New Orleans placed him on injured reserve with a designation to return on Aug. 30.
That designation allowed the Saints to preserve his opportunity to play this season. However, completing the minimum four-game absence didn’t mean he was healthy enough to get back on the field.Tyson remained weeks away from returning when he first became eligible in early October.
His presence with the team in France offered some encouragement, but Loomis confirmed Wednesday that Tyson wouldn’t practice ahead of the Steelers game.
“He’s improving, but he is not going to practice this week,”Loomis said.
The update leaves Tyson continuing his rehabilitation while his teammates prepare to play. For a rookie still waiting on his first regular-season snap, returning to practice remains an important step before anyone can pencil him into the lineup.
New Orleans selected Tyson eighth overall out of Arizona State. The Saints have now spent the opening portion of the season without the receiver they used that premium pick to acquire, extending the wait to see how he fits into their offense.
Week 9 against the Cleveland Browns is the earliest remaining opportunity for Tyson to make his debut. New Orleans has a Week 8 bye following the Paris game, giving him another week without a game to miss. That schedule makes Cleveland a potential target, though his availability remains unconfirmed.
Loomis expressed optimism about Tyson’s progress but did not provide a specific timetable. With the Saints off in Week 8, Week 9 against Cleveland is the earliest possible return date. Once his return-to-practice window opens, the team will have up to 21 days to activate him. Opening that window would signal progress without guaranteeing an immediate appearance in the game.
Meanwhile, Chris Olave has continued to produce. Entering Week 7, he ranks No. 3 in the 2026 full-seasonPFN’s NFL WR Impact rankings with an 87.9 grade, recording 43 catches for 580 yards and two touchdowns through six games. Devaughn Vele has added 28 receptions for 294 yards and two scores.
Tyson could eventually give that group another option. For now, the next meaningful update will be his clearance to practice. Until that happens, Week 9 belongs on the calendar as a possibility, with his first NFL appearance still dependent on his recovery.
