Harrogate Town AFC has appointed Irving Weaver as Life President in recognition of his 15 years as chairman and owner of the club.
Weaver took ownership in 2011 and oversaw a period that included two promotions, the club’s first entry into the English Football League and victory at Wembley in the FA Trophy.
The appointment follows the completion of the club’s ownership transition last Friday, with Jonathan Blezard succeeding Weaver as chairman.
Blezard said recognising Weaver’s contribution had been one of the priorities following the completion of the transition.
Jonathan Blezard, chairman of Harrogate Town AFC, said: What Irving has achieved here is remarkable. He took a small football club and, through years of personal commitment, determination and investment, helped take it to heights that few could have imagined.
Blezard said that, despite retiring from ownership and leadership, Weaver would remain a valued presence at the club and that he hoped to continue drawing on his experience and advice.
Jonathan Blezard said: I have enormous respect for what Irving has achieved and feel a real responsibility to protect and build upon his legacy. It is a privilege to appoint Irving as Life President, and on behalf of everyone associated with the Club, I would like to thank him for everything he has done.
Weaver’s appointment as Life President recognises his contribution to Harrogate Town, while Blezard takes on the role of chairman under the club’s new ownership.
