Former Indian cricketer Abhinav Mukund has revealed his top 3 Indian batters in T20I cricket, and young sensation Abhishek Sharma has been cut from his list. Abhishek Sharma may not have made the top three, but Mukund has placed the explosive left-hander ahead of several big names.

Abhishek has established himself as one of the most dangerous opening batters in T20 cricket, thanks to his ultra-aggressive and fearless batting. Abhinav has even overlooked the legendary Yuvraj Singh. Earlier, Mohammad Kaif spots Virat Kohli-like quality in Ishan Kishan after Bengaluru T20I.

Abhinav Mukund picks Abhishek Sharma in his top 5 Indian T20I batters, overlooks Yuvraj Singh

During an ESPNcricinfo segment, ‘Cricinfo Quick Singles,' Abhinav Mukund was asked to rank India's greatest T20I batters of all time. While he found it difficult to choose between Hardik Pandya and Yuvraj Singh, he eventually picked Pandya at number five and gave Abhishek the fourth spot.

Mukund confirmed that Abhishek belongs in the all-time top 20 and top 10, and he also managed to break into his top five. He said, “It's a tough one, but I think he makes it. He makes it to my top 5.”

However, when asked whether the young Indian opener deserved a place among the top three, Mukund placed him at the number four spot. He said, “Top three, no, he's the fourth.”

Abhishek Sharma has already scored 2071 runs in 67 matches at an average of 32.36 and a strike rate of 194.10 with the help of three centuries and 14 fifties. His fearless batting, quick bat speed, and ability to attack both pace and spin make him a powerful batter from the first ball.

The top three names on Mukund's list were Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav. Interestingly, he did not rank these three legends in any particular order.

Virat Kohli already retired from T20I cricket in 2024 and is known for his textbook shots, fast running between the wickets, and ability to handle pressure while chasing targets. Kohli has played 125 matches and scored 4188 runs at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04.

Rohit Sharma, who also retired from T20Is in 2024, has 4231 runs in 159 matches at an average of 32.05 and a strike rate of 140.89 to his name. He is a dangerous opener because of his attacking batting in the powerplay, excellent timing, and he has powerful pull shots.

Talking about Suryakumar Yadav, the former Indian captain has amassed 3272 runs in 113 matches with an average of 36.35 and a strike rate of 162.94 including four centuries and 25 fifties.360 degree batting, ramps, sweeps and inventive shots help him score all over the ground.

Hardik Pandya picked over Yuvraj Singh!!

The cricket pandit's final list featured Rohit, Kohli, and Suryakumar in the top three, while Abhishek comes at No. 4 and Hardik at No. 5. Amid this, Shreyas Iyer sends a blunt message to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after repeatedly benching him.

Mukund said, “So, my top 5, and I had a bit of a doubt between Hardik Pandya and Yuvraj Singh. I've decided to go with Hardik Pandya; he's my number 5. Abhishek Sharma is number 4, and the top 3 are in no particular order. That's a cop-out, I know it, but it is what it is. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav.”

Notably, Hardik Pandya has 2288 runs to his name in 138 T20I matches at an average of 28.25 and a strike rate of 145.92. The all-rounder smashed nine fifties in the format. His power hitting, especially down the ground, helps him finish innings strongly and score quick runs under pressure.
