Irvine Meadow edge closer to top spot with Arthurlie win

The North Ayrshire team dismantled the WoSFL Premier Division leaders at the weekend, winning the match 6-0.

The victory at Meadow Park knocked the Barrhead outfit off the summit and took McKim's men within a point of first place with a game in hand on new leaders Glenafton Athletic.

It was a dominant performance which saw the hosts four ahead at the break thanks to goals from Mark Taylor, Danny Wilson and an Euan Baird double.

An own goal after the restart saw Meadow pick up where they left off before Mark Curragh completed the rout.

“Saturday was excellent," McKim said. "I’ve seen a few things, from the Arthurlie perspective, that they were poor, I’m not having that.

“We were excellent, we were bang at it in every aspect. Defensively, we pressed the game really well, we won the ball back high up the pitch and when we didn’t we won the aerial duels.

“I thought that, every time we went forward, we looked like we could score. We showed a threat from set pieces and, in transition, the speed we broke at in attack was scary.

“In my time, I would say that’s our most complete performance.”

Though McKim said that the result was not out of the blue with his team continuously improving.

He added: “Over the last few months, our performance levels are improving week on week.

“When you make adjustments to the squad in the summer, and start bringing a few in after the season started, it takes boys time to adjust to how we play.

“Every week I feel like we’re getting stronger and stronger. I felt it was a matter of time until we hit someone comfortably.

“Saturday, I think it just all came together. Defensively excellent, attack with a real threat, all over the pitch I felt we were really dominant.

“It’s really impressive because it’s against a team that are right up there. I’m delighted.”

While the boss feels his squad are now benefiting from a patient approach to new signings.

He continued: “I said at the start of the season, we weren’t rushing into signings and panicking, we were just taking our time to get the right ones.

“I always say that when the season starts it should be the weakest you are all season because from that point you would only make moves to strengthen.

“I think we’ve done that really well. We just need to keep it up, the way we are going, and keep working hard.”

Next up for Meadow is a trip to face Glenafton Athletic in the League Cup on Saturday, November 7.

McKim said: “You want to progress in the cups, you want to win every time you play, but I also have a squad there.

“In the cup games, I like to use my squad and make sure guys get time, but that doesn’t take away from that we need to be strong enough to win the game.”
