Bruno Fernandes 2026 Ballon d’Or ranking officially confirmed

Bruno Fernandes was nominated for the 2026 Ballon d’Or after an impressive 2025/26 season, with his final ranking now confirmed.

Bruno Fernandes 2026 Ballon d’Or ranking officially confirmed

Bruno Fernandes has officially discovered his 2026 Ballon d’Or ranking following an extraordinary individual campaign that ended with Manchester United returning to the Champions League.

The Portuguese midfielder was instrumental in United’s third-place Premier League finish under Michael Carrick last season.

Fernandes registered nine league goals and a remarkable 21 assists, breaking the Premier League’s all-time single-season record.

His final assist, a corner converted by Patrick Dorgu against Brighton, took him beyond Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who previously shared the record with 20.

The achievement earned Fernandes widespread recognition.

He won the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, voted for by fellow professionals, alongside the Premier League Player of the Season and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year honours.

However, his summer with Portugal proved less memorable.

Fernandes failed to score in five appearances at the 2026 World Cup, recording just one assist before Portugal suffered a 1-0 last-16 defeat against Spain.

His struggles have continued into the new club season, with United recording just two victories in 12 competitive matches.

Following his public criticism of Carrick’s tactics after Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat against Como, Fernandes was dropped for Sunday’s Bournemouth encounter.

The captain remained an unused substitute throughout United’s humiliating 3-0 defeat, despite Carrick insisting his omission was purely a footballing decision.

Now, the Ballon d’Or nominee has learned his final position.

The official Ballon d’Or account confirmed on X that Bruno Fernandes finished 27th in the 2026 men’s rankings.

Despite dominating English football’s individual awards, the United captain finished towards the bottom of the 30-man shortlist.

The ranking reflects performances during the award’s assessment period, rather than United’s disastrous start to the 2026/27 campaign.

Nevertheless, Fernandes’ achievement remains recognition of a record-breaking season, even as uncertainty surrounds his future at Old Trafford.
