Winning stretch has changed momentum at Bournemouth, says Rose
Winning stretch has changed momentum at Bournemouth, says Rose

Marco Rose believes Bournemouth are starting to reap the rewards of their hard work, after the Cherries continued their recent resurgence with a 2-0 win over Leeds United.

Bournemouth registered their sixth victory in a row across all competitions on Saturday, with goals from Evanilson and Amine Adli sealing the points at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries opened the scoring when Justin Kluivert capitalised on James Trafford's loose pass before squaring for Evanilson to tuck into the net in the 31st minute.

Bournemouth had to wait until second-half stoppage time to seal the win, with Junior Kroupi slipping in Adli to finish past Trafford.

After winning just one of their first 13 league matches against Leeds, Bournemouth are now unbeaten in their last four against them (W2 D2), with this the first clean sheet they have registered against them since September 1988 (0-0).

The Cherries have also now won three consecutive Premier League games without conceding for the very first time, following shutouts of Manchester United and Sunderland.

Rose praised his side's intensity, discipline and adaptability, while highlighting the importance of seizing key moments against a Leeds side that had suffered just one defeat in their first eight games of the Premier League season.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, the German said: "We got better and better, we scored the goals in the right moments and that's why we are quite happy.

"I remember all the stories we had five or six weeks ago, in a different situation. I'm quite happy we changed the momentum and finally rewarded ourselves."

Bournemouth's turnaround has been built on a formidable defensive platform. The Cherries have not conceded during their six-match winning streak and now sit seventh in the Premier League standings.

However, Rose insisted there was no secret behind his side's improvement, adding: "Nothing special, to be honest.

"We have our patterns, we know how to defend the box, and we know what we have to do. It's about small things at this level, especially against such good opposition."

Rose also reserved praise for Evanilson, who has now scored in four consecutive Premier League matches, the longest streak of his top-flight career.

The Brazilian registered his eighth Premier League goal involvement of the season (four goals, four assists), with only Erling Haaland (nine) having more. It's already more goal involvements than he managed in 36 appearances last term (six goals, one assist).

"He was always hard working in and out of possession," Rose said of Evanilson.

"The only thing he lacked was scoring by himself and that's what he's started now. I hope he's getting on a run, because that's very important for us."

In the opposite dugout, Daniel Farke felt the scoreline did not accurately reflect Leeds' performance.

Leeds finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 0.67 from their 10 shots, though only one of those forced Djordje Petrovic into making a save.

"Football is brutal sometimes, it can feel like the most unfair sport in the world," said the Leeds boss.

"We would have deserved so much more. Overall, it was a really good away game, but if you read the result, it reads different."

This was Farke's first Premier League defeat against another German manager across his last four outings (W2 D1 beforehand), having last lost against a compatriot almost one year ago (0-3 v Fabian Hurzeler's Brighton in November 2025).
