FHSAA to announce football playoff bracket, Open Division at 5 p.m. Nov. 6

The FHSAA announced that its football bracket release show will be on Friday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m.

The FHSAA will announce who's in, who's out, and playoff seedings for multiple different postseason tournaments - most notably the State Championship series and the new Open Division.

The State Championship series is the traditional championship playoffs with Classes 1A-6A. Each class will have 32 teams in a bracket for their respective state championships.

The Open Division will pull the top-8 ranked teams in the state, regardless of class, to compete for one title. The eight teams will enter pool play, then the top two teams from each pool will face off in a single elimination tournament.

Last year's bracket release show featured a bit of drama, and the stage is set for more fireworks this year. A judge signed an order to temporarily lift a postseason ban on The First Academy just two hours before the show began, forcing the FHSAA to delay revealing the Class 1A bracket until the issue was settled in court.

This year, Carol City was handed a postseason ban after a postgame fight in Grayson (Ga.), and submitted their appeal at the buzzer. The Chiefs are currently ranked No. 6 in MaxPreps' Florida rankings, meaning they would qualify for the Open Division. How Carol City's appeal goes through would directly impact the Open Division, and if they slip out of the top-8, would have major implications on Class 2A's playoff picture.

The FHSAA's bracket reveal will be live on their YouTube channel.
