Nottingham Forest could have a decision to make over one of their squad players during the January transfer window, with clubs eyeing a move for John Victor.

The 30-year-old has never really been able to command a place in the team since arriving from Botafogo in 2025, making a big error against Aston Villa last season that led to him getting injured and spending time on the sidelines.

Victor played eight games last season, but once Forest signed Stefan Ortega during the January transfer window, the Brazilian found himself further down the pecking order.

Would you rather sell Morgan Gibbs-White for £100m & rebuild OR keep him as the face of Nottingham Forest? 🤔

Oliver Glasner hasn’t given him any game time so far this season, and now, one of Brazil’s top domestic clubs are eyeing a move for him once the window reopens in January.

John Victor surplus to requirements

Victor’s contract at Forest runs until 2028, but after struggling to cement a place in the team as the club’s number one goalkeeper, it’s likely the Reds would accept a bid for the custodian.

The stopper showcased flashes of promise in brief cup and Premier League outings, but the injury he sustained at Villa Park in January has restricted his progress at Forest.

Matz Sels is firmly established as the club’s number one goalkeeper, but any transfer for Victor would leave the club in need of a new recruit, with Steven Benda the only other senior stopper on Trentside.

Vasco da Gama want John Victor

According to the Cruzmaltino Podcast, Victor is just one of the players on the shortlist at Vasco as they look to sign a new number one goalkeeper before the Brazilian top-flight campaign gets underway.

Victor has a wealth of experience playing top-flight football in Brazil, and that makes him an ideal target for an ambitious Vasco outfit.

It’s believed initial conversations have taken place, Forest have yet to make a definitive decision on whether they’d look to sell him or loan him out with an obligation to buy further down the track.

For Victor, a move back to Brazil would likely prove appealing, and he can’t be happy that he’s not played a competitive game for Forest in almost a year.

Letting Victor go back to Brazil would free the squad up for Glasner to sign a new goalkeeper, and some genuine competition for Sels would be perfect for the January window.
