Xavi Simons injury latest and return date as update issued on Tottenham star
Xavi Simons of Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly received a major boost with Xavi Simons' recovery from injury. Simons has been sidelined since April after suffering an ACL injury, and the Spurs playmaker still faces a lengthy recovery period.

The Netherlands international suffered the injury on April 25 during a Premier League clash with Wolves, causing the Tottenham star to miss the World Cup with his country.

Simons has been recovering from the injury ever since and underwent surgery a few days later. Spurs will be hoping the 23-year-old can feature before the end of the season.

A fresh update on Simons’ recovery will encourage Tottenham that the forward can feature for the club before the end of the campaign.

According to The Athletic, Spurs hope to welcome Simons back to first-team training before the end of this month, which would be significantly earlier than many expected.

The report claims that Simons is ahead of schedule in his recovery from the injury, which was initially expected to keep the former RB Leipzig star sidelined until at least the end of January.

It has been reported that Simons is currently working on an individual training programme and is expected to rejoin the rest of the first-team training after the international break.

The update on Simons is the second injury boost to be handed to Tottenham this week, following an update on Savio’s fitness.

The Brazilian has missed each of Tottenham’s last three matches, which saw them claim wins over Coventry City, Chelsea and Crystal Palace, but he could also be closing in on a return.

The summer signing posted several photos of himself alongside his teammates in the dressing room at the club’s training ground.

"Savio, unfortunately, on Tuesday, before we left for Marbella, he felt a muscular problem, and we lost him for some weeks, unfortunately," Roberto De Zerbi said last month. "I don't know [how long he'll be sidelined], but some weeks for sure."

It remains to be seen if Savio will be available for Spurs to face Leeds United this weekend, with De Zerbi potentially giving an update ahead of the fixture.
