Tenerife Football Club has confirmed the heartbreaking news that Jesus de Miguel has passed away at the age of 30, following a devastating collision during a match on Monday night.

The horrifying incident unfolded in the dying moments of their Spanish Segunda fixture against Andorra, when De Miguel chased down a long ball. As he attempted to bring it under control, he was struck by the flying knee of goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who was immediately sent off for the challenge.

The 30-year-old lay motionless on the pitch for several seconds before his fellow players recognised the gravity of the situation and urgently called for medical attention, resulting in the match being called off.

De Miguel was swiftly rushed to hospital, where doctors confirmed in the early hours that his neurological condition was deteriorating. The Spanish club later announced his tragic death.

Tenerife said: "Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.

"There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome.

"The family of Jesús de Miguel thanks each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requests, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments."

Spanish media reports suggested he had gone into cardiac arrest but was successfully resuscitated before being transported to the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria, where he was admitted to intensive care, reports the Mirror.

Footage from the incident showed Owono glancing back to check on De Miguel, while others appeared unable to witness the harrowing scenes. Initially, Tenerife released an encouraging update on Monday, though they subsequently revealed his condition had deteriorated before announcing the heartbreaking news of his passing.

Their opponents the day, Andorra, later shared their own tribute on social media, stating: "With broken hearts and devastated, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife."

Former Manchester United and Spain goalkeeper David de Gea, currently with Serie A side Fiorentina, also offered his respects, posting an emoji of a broken heart and praying hands on social media.

De Miguel joined Tenerife at the beginning of last season, playing a crucial role in their promotion to Spain's second division with 11 goals across 29 appearances. He has featured solely as a substitute this campaign, accumulating merely 81 minutes across 11 matches.

Monday was poised to be his most extended appearance after entering the pitch in the 59th minute with his side leading 2-0.

De Miguel is survived by his daughter, Carla de Miguel Fernandez, who was born in 2025.
