Kirk Cousins is having what can only be described as a resurgence this season with the Raiders. He's on pace for over 4500 yards and 40 touchdowns. The former he's only accomplished once, the latter would be a career-high by a wide margin.
A lot of credit for Cousins's big numbers have gone to his familiarity with head coach Klint Kubiak's system. But new charting suggests it's more than that.
According to numbers compiled by Fantasy Points Date, every one of the quarterbacks who have played under Kubiak the past three seasons had career years in terms of EPA per dropback and adjusted net yards per attempt.
Those three quarterbacks are Cousins, Sam Darnold in the Seahawks' Super Bowl winning 2025 campaign, and former Raiders QB Derek Carr with the Saints.
You could, if you like, go back much farther than that for some evidence of this, if you like. Back to 2019 in Kubiak's first year as Cousins's QB coach in Minnesota. That season Cousins put up a career best 7.7 ANY/A and headed to his second Pro Bowl. This year he's tied for his second best rate (7.5).
So, you can see why Cousins jumped at the chance to come to the Raiders to play under Kubiak again.
