The New York Giants beat the Houston Texans, 27-21, in overtime on Sunday at Reliant Stadium and improved to 4-2-1 heading into their bye.
J.J. McCarthy made his first start and finished 20 of 28 for 252 yards as New York piled up 188 rushing yards. Cam Skattebo ran for 124 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown, then ripped off a 42-yard gain in overtime that set up Devin Singletary’s game-winning 30-yard score. Malik Nabers caught seven passes for 111 yards. Jameis Winston added a short-yardage touchdown run.
Jevon Holland (concussion), Greg Newsome II (concussion) and Theo Johnson (neck) were among the inactives. Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve (IR).
Here’s a look at the snap counts from New York’s Week 7 win over the Texans.
After receiving just six snaps in a Week 6 loss, running back Cam Skattebo responded in a big way, taking 37 percent of the offensive snaps and rushing for 124 yards and one touchdown.
Linebacker Micah McFadden also stepped into the starting role and recorded 100 percent of the defensive snaps, leading the team in tackles.
"He had a bunch of tackles. And then the first-down tackle when they ran that sweep play, and he shows up out of nowhere and tackles it for a one-yard loss; that set the tone. That's really what got them off the field and gave us a chance," head coach John Harbaugh told reporters after the game.
Meanwhile, linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux was on the field for 80 percent of the defensive snaps and played a game that extended well beyond the box score (four tackles).
"Kayvon Thibodeaux could have been the player of the game," Harbaugh said, lamenting a dropped interception. "That catch right there."
The 4-2-1 Giants now head into their bye week.
