Chelsea are reportedly considering a “massive bid” for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez after their failed pursuit of his signature in 2025.
Article continues under the videoFermin has been strongly linked with a Stamford Bridge switch for several years, but the Blues have been unable to finalise a deal with Barcelona, while the Spain international himself has been reluctant to leave Camp Nou.
The midfielder remains an integral part of Hansi Flick’s first-team squad and with nine goal contributions in 12 games across all competitions so far this season, it’s no surprise that several top European clubs are keeping close tabs on his situation.
Fermin signed a new long-term Barcelona contract valid until 2031 earlier this year, but this hasn’t dissuaded Paris Saint-Germain or Chelsea, who are both eager to secure his signature either in January or next summer.
That is according to The Daily Briefing, who claim that PSG are readying a “serious offer” worth €80 million. Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly considering a “massive bid” for the 23-year-old.
Fermin has an Estimated Transfer Value of €116.5m - the 14th highest of any player in world football - and it’s understood that he is not considering a Barcelona exit, despite strong interest from several top clubs.
However, Barcelona may reportedly be open to a sale if they receive a substantial transfer offer and this could encourage PSG and Chelsea to step up their interest in the Spaniard, with Arsenal and Manchester United also having made checks in recent months.
While Fermin remains on Chelsea’s list of possible signings, he isn’t their top target and a move in January therefore seems highly unlikely, especially as Barcelona will be reluctant to sanction a mid-season sale amid their pursuit of Champions League glory.
Instead, Xabi Alonso’s side are expected to submit a formal offer for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott following their failed pursuit of his signature over the summer.
The England star has been earmarked as Chelsea’s primary target for 2027 and they are desperate to finalise a deal with Bournemouth after selling Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City on Transfer Deadline Day.
It’s understood that a fee of around €120m will be required to reach an agreement with Bournemouth, and Chelsea are set to face competition from Liverpool, who are also eager to sign Scott amid his impressive recent form.
