‘Doesn’t Really Change Anything’ — Colts RB Jonathan Taylor Downplays Wife Ayanna’s Role in Trade Rumors

With the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline creeping closer, the noise around Jonathan Taylor’s future with the Indianapolis Colts is getting harder to ignore.

The Colts signed their star running back to a lucrative two-year, $44 million extension during training camp. However, that hasn’t stopped other teams from being linked to him in recent weeks. Taylor would be a big catch for any contender looking to make a late-season push.

Before Sunday’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, ESPN reported that the Colts planned to evaluate their three-game stretch against the Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys before deciding whether to have a fire sale.

Before the Colts make their decision, Taylor’s wife, Ayanna, weighed in on his future in a short social media video, suggesting his future in Indianapolis is uncertain following the firing of general manager Chris Ballard.

Jonathan Taylor Responds to His Wife’s Comments

The trade talk followed Taylor into Sunday’s 16-10 loss to the Vikings, which dropped the Colts to 2-5.

Asked after the game whether Ayanna’s comments had complicated the situation just a touch more, Taylor defended his wife, saying the remarks hadn’t changed much since rumors were already circulating.

“It’s been out there already, so I think her adding (to it) doesn’t really change anything,” the three-time Pro Bowler said. “You know everybody’s on TikTok these days. So, you just have to come into work and stay focused.”

In her social media video, Ayanna linked the Colts’ recent struggles and Ballard’s firing to the trade rumors surrounding her husband.

“The Colts were already in the hot seat last year, but then we went on this crazy hot streak with our new QB [Daniel Jones], and everything looked great until he got hurt,” she said. “Then we started losing game after game. But because the potential was still there, the GM and the coach were able to keep their jobs for another year.

“Fast-forward to today, our record is 2-4, and we just lost to a winless Tennessee Titans team. They were 0-5, and now they’re 1-5. Hence, they fired Chris Ballard. Players who once seemed untouchable may now be on the table. Hence, the rumors circulating around my husband.”

In seven seasons with the Colts, Taylor has recorded 8,185 rushing yards and 77 touchdowns on 1,691 carries. He currently ranks No. 10 in the league with a PFN RB Impact Score of 80.2.

He’s also been a reliable receiver out of the backfield at times, recording 204 catches for 1,647 yards and seven touchdowns in his NFL career.

Despite his individual success, the running back has yet to enjoy sustained postseason success in Indy.

The Colts selected Taylor in the second round (No. 41 overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin. During his time with the Badgers, he won the Doak Walker Award in both 2018 and 2019. At 5-foot-10 and 226 pounds, Taylor is a tough runner to bring down once he gets moving downfield.

As the 2026 season continues, the Colts are hoping to turn things around and get back to winning more consistently. Taylor, however, could be looking for a change of scenery sooner rather than later.
