Five top Mid Wales football performances from the weekend

National cup performances take precedence in this week’s Fantastic Five, with Newtown, Dolgellau AA and Aberystwyth Town all progressing, while Guilsfield produced a remarkable recovery before suffering penalty shoot-out disappointment.

Four players earn their places for their contributions in the FAW Welsh Cup, while Bont’s Sam Davies forces his way into the selection after producing the biggest individual goals haul in the weekend round-up.

JAMIE HYNE – NEWTOWN

Jamie Hyne led Newtown’s goalscoring charge as they powered into the next round of the FAW Welsh Cup with a 7-0 victory over Llanuwchllyn at Latham Park.

Sean Griffiths had opened the scoring after 10 minutes before Hyne doubled the advantage just three minutes later, with Gareth Evans making it 3-0 before the interval.

Hyne struck again five minutes after the restart and completed his hat-trick in the 71st minute, with Oliver Sharp and Hanoch Boakye also finding the net in an emphatic Newtown victory.

JAKE O’DONNELL – GUILSFIELD

Jake O’Donnell played a central role in a remarkable Guilsfield recovery as they fought back from three goals down to draw 3-3 at Coedpoeth United in the FAW Welsh Cup.

O’Donnell struck Guilsfield’s first goal in the 54th minute, but Coedpoeth subsequently moved 3-1 ahead before Jake Cook’s 87th-minute penalty gave the visitors renewed hope.

O’Donnell then struck his second goal three minutes into injury time to force a penalty shoot-out.

Guilsfield were ultimately denied, with Coedpoeth prevailing from the spot.

GERWYN WILLIAMS – DOLGELLAU AA

Gerwyn Williams struck twice as Dolgellau AA recovered from an early setback to secure a 4-1 FAW Welsh Cup victory at Penycae.

The hosts went ahead through Isaac Dawson after only four minutes, but Williams brought Dolgellau level in the 33rd minute before Peter Young completed the turnaround on the stroke of half-time.

A Ben Buley own goal increased Dolgellau’s advantage two minutes after the restart before Williams grabbed his second in the 54th minute to complete the scoring.

AARON WILLIAMS – ABERYSTWYTH TOWN

Aaron Williams was among the goals as Aberystwyth Town eased into the next round of the FAW Welsh Cup with a 5-1 victory over Prestatyn Town at Park Avenue.

Williams gave the Seasiders an 11th-minute lead before Tomos Evans doubled the advantage five minutes later, although Tom Hilditch pulled one back for Prestatyn before the break.

Williams struck his second in the 70th minute before Daniel Owen scored twice in the space of three minutes to complete Aberystwyth’s victory.

SAM DAVIES – BONT

Sam Davies earns the final Fantastic Five place after producing the biggest individual goals haul anywhere in the supplied weekend round-up.

Davies scored five times as Bont recorded a 10-2 home victory over Corris United in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League, accounting for half of his side’s goals.

Rory Davies added a hat-trick, while Charlie Parr and Joe Balla completed Bont’s tally, with James Fox and Mason Dennett replying for Corris United.
