Jayson Tatum delivered a signature moment in his comeback season Tuesday, burying a pull-up jumper at the overtime buzzer to give the Boston Celtics a dramatic 125-124 win over the Brooklyn Nets.

The shot also landed amid the ongoing conversation about Tatum and former teammate Jaylen Brown, and fans wasted little time taking digs at Brown while celebrating Tatum’s game-winning moment.

Fans Pile On Jaylen Brown as Jayson Tatum Delivers Dramatic OT Buzzer-Beater Against the Nets

Tatum got the ball in the closing seconds of overtime and hit a 17-foot jumper off a Derrick White assist, leaving the Nets with no time to respond. He finished with 40 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and a block, shooting 10-of-20 from the field and 18-of-22 from the free-throw line.

It was also the 30th 40-point game of Tatum’s regular-season career. Only Larry Bird has more in Celtics history, with 47.

Former Celtics big man Brian Scalabrine couldn’t resist a jab, tying the win right back to the Tatum and Brown’s back-and-forth: “A heck of a PR team.”

The jab fit into a story that’s been building for a week now. In episode three of his Summer of Jayson video series, the Celtics star recalled learning about Brown’s trade while in Las Vegas, emphasizing that he was caught off guard.

The six-time NBA All-Star later insisted he held no “animosity, or beef, or ill will” toward Brown after Jaylen left a blue cap emoji in the comments when Bleacher Report reposted Tatum’s video on Instagram.

Brown responded to Tatum’s comments following Philadelphia’s 127-116 victory over Milwaukee, agreeing there was “no beef” while suggesting his former teammate had “a great PR team,” while joking that there might be “a little lamb chops and some gravy,” instead of beef.

That exchange provided fresh material for fans after Tatum’s latest heroics.

One NBA fan quipped, “Jaylen brown just fell to his knees.”

Another fan tied the game-winner directly to Brown’s comments, posting, “That’s the shot of a guy with a great pr team.”

SportsRadioWIP on-air host Tom Kelly took the sarcasm further, declaring, “Thank god they got rid of the awful Jaylen Brown so Jayson Tatum can get all the glory that comes with making an Overtime game winner to beat the Nets on October 27th.”

Kalshi Hoops also took a dig at Brown, posting a comparison between the two former teammates: “Number of 40/5/5 Games: 17 — Jayson Tatum 3 — Jaylen Brown”

Meanwhile, another hoops fan focused on Tatum’s buzzer-beater itself, writing, “From mid-range too. Kobe would’ve been proud.”

After the game, Tatum reflected on what the moment meant following his injury.

“Was a hell of a feeling,” he explained. “Just kind of getting back to doing things that I used to do before I was injured, and sharing that moment with my teammates on the court, seeing them rally and being excited for me.”

Thanks to his clutch moment, the Celtics are now 3-1 in the East. Tatum will be back in action against the Chicago Bulls on Friday.
