Kembali
New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh is not in the mood for a franchise rebuild. The 64-year-old Super Bowl-winning coach signed a five-year, $100 million contract last winter with Big Blue to win now.
That is why we are hearing the team did not throw in the towel when they lost their starting quarterback (Jaxson Dart) and defensive captain (Brian Burns) for the season. Harbaugh's glass remained half-full.
With the Giants falling into a tub of good fortune after acquiring quarterback J.J. McCarthy and proving their roster is deeper than anyone thought, they are in prime position near the halfway point of the season to win the NFC East.
The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 10, and Harbaugh and general manager Joe Schoen are going full steam ahead to fortify their roster and pull away from their faltering division rivals.
Naturally, they are going to have to get creative with the cap – and soon – if they are to land a marquee running back or interior defensive lineman. They also have very little draft capital to trade.
The Giants have only five picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. They have their own picks in Rounds 1-3 and 6. They have no fourth-rounder (used in the deal to move up to acquire WR Malachi Fields in April's draft), and no fifth-rounder (traded to Minnesota for McCarthy).
They did get a sixth-round pick from Jacksonville this summer in exchange for offensive lineman Daniel Faalele. They are also projected to receive a fourth-round compensatory selection for losing WR Wan'Dale Robinson in free agency. However, they won't get that pick until next spring.
Running backs the Giants are rumored to be interested in include Indianapolis' Jonathan Taylor, Tennessee's Tony Pollard, and future Hall of Famer Derrick Henry, who played last year for Harbaugh in Baltimore.
The Giants had interest in Washington defensive lineman Daron Payne, but he is now out for the season with an injury.
