Leanne Crichton has etched her name into the history books at Rangers after guiding the Light Blues to an unprecedented Scottish Women’s Premier League milestone at the weekend.

Rangers Women extended their commanding lead at the summit of the SWPL table on Sunday (25 October) with a ruthless 4-0 victory over Motherwell at Broadwood Stadium. While severe weather disruptions caused by Storm Boelo saw rival fixtures, including Hearts vs Montrose and Hibernian vs Celtic, postponed, Crichton’s side took full advantage of the opportunity to surge eight points clear at the top.

The victory represents far more than three points in the SWPL title race. For the first time in Rangers Women‘s 18-season history – dating back to their founding in 2008 and subsequent promotion from the Scottish Women’s First Division in 2009 – Rangers have won their opening 10 top-flight league games.

Even during their historic, unbeaten SWPL title-winning campaign in 2021-22, Rangers had never achieved a flawless 10-game opening streak to start a top-flight season.

Leanne Crichton leads title charge as Rangers Women win first 10 SWPL games for first time in 18-year history

Under Crichton’s tactical direction, the squad have exhibited staggering momentum, plundering 36 goals while shipping just seven to post a league-best +29 goal difference.

Sunday’s performance highlighted the tactical depth Crichton has cultivated. Calliste Brookshire opened the scoring in the 28th minute, before young forward Laura Berry doubled the advantage just before half-time.

Winger Brogan Hay then took centre stage in the second half, bagging a clinical double (47′, 82′) to seal the 4-0 win – her first league brace since a 4-0 victory over Hearts in March 2025, as pointed out by Gavin Noon of Scotland’s Coefficient.

The result also extended Rangers’ total dominance over Motherwell, marking their 20th successive league win over the Lanarkshire side since April 2019, outscoring them 85-7 across that stretch.

Pos Team Played W D L GF GA GD Points
1 Rangers Women 10 10 0 0 36 7 +29 30
2 Heart of Midlothian 9 7 1 1 34 10 +24 22
3 Celtic Women 9 7 0 2 25 12 +13 21
4 Glasgow City 9 5 2 2 26 10 +16 17
8 Motherwell Women 10 2 1 7 5 27 -22 7

At the centre of this record-breaking run is star striker Katie Wilkinson, who leads the entire SWPL with 11 league goals through 10 matches.

With nearest challengers Hearts (22 points) and champions Celtic (21 points) holding a game in hand due to Storm Boelo, the pressure is squarely on the chasing pack to respond.

Crichton’s side have laid down an undeniable benchmark. If Rangers Women maintain this historic trajectory, the SWPL trophy will be returning to Ibrox come the end of the season.
