David Moyes is out of contract next summer and Everton fans are extremely curious to see if he will extend or not, amid uncertainty over The Friedkin Group’s decision to put the club up for sale.
David Moyes is now approaching the end of the deal he signed when he replaced Sean Dyche in January 2025.
So there is a rather mixed feeling about Moyes, but one line from a new report this evening might be a hint about his future.

Celtic are eyeing David Moyes with his Everton contract expiring next year… thoughts? 🤔
The Daily Mail have reported about Moyes’ future amid the uncertainty over the club’s ownership.
And the writer of the article Lewis Steele, says he was at an awards do on Sunday with Moyes, who spoke about ‘his desire to challenge Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson at the top of the list for most Premier League games managed’,
At the moment, he is 67 behind Wenger, who managed 828 for Arsenal. Sir Alex managed 810 Premier League games for Manchester United. Moyes is currently on 753.
So to surpass those two legends, he would need an extension from Everton. Or, of course, he could leave at the end of the season and then manage another Premier League club. But that doesn’t feel especially likely.
But this is an interesting line, which does seem to rule out Moyes himself actually saying no to a new deal.
What will be fascinating is if and when Everton change hands this season, after TFG put the club up for sale. There is a potential here that new owners would want their own man, rather than stick with Moyes.

But there is also the notion that Everton would be in a new transition period that would bring about instability. Moyes is generally seen as a safe pair of hands, so it could be that new owners do want him to sign a new deal.
But we’ll see if the prospect of surpassing Sir Alex and Wenger will be a key factor in Moyes remaining at Hill Dickinson beyond the current campaign.
