  • Karl Storey, a 38-year-old from Willenhall, has found his true calling as a boxing coach after years of struggling with unfulfilled professional boxing dreams.
  • The former amateur boxer walked away from the sport at 21 when he realised his professional aspirations wouldn't materialise. "I wanted to run away from it and get away from it as far as I could because it hurt me that much," Karl told Coventry Live.
  • After years of feeling lost and going through difficult times, Karl had a life-changing moment around age 30. "I remember looking at myself in the mirror one day and thinking 'that's not who I am'," he recalled.
  • Returning to the gym helped Karl rebuild his confidence and eventually led him back to boxing, but this time as a coach rather than a competitor. He discovered that helping others gave him an even greater buzz than winning fights himself.
  • Karl now runs his own club, Karl's Boxing Academy, working with everyone from complete beginners to those with disabilities. "Boxing is for everyone, that is my club's motto," he explained, noting his work with children with autism, cerebral palsy, and wheelchair users.
  • "I am a big believer in everything happens for a reason," Karl reflected on his journey from disappointment to finding his true purpose in coaching.
