The Chiefs placed second-year offensive tackle Josh Simmons on injured reserve this week, but a recent report suggested that the Chiefs' frustration with the first-round pick extends beyond his health.
According to ESPN's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes told Simmons to leave a team meeting after he was seated with his feet up. Reid told Simmons to sit properly, and that was when Simmons claimed he needed to sit that way due to his back pain.
The exchange ultimately led to Mahomes and Reid asking Simmons to leave the room and get treatment if his back pain was so bad. According to the report, Simmons remained at the facility and apologized the next day.

The exchange continued and disrupted the meeting, sources said, until Mahomes echoed Reid's sentiment for Simmons to leave the room and go get treatment. A perturbed Simmons left the room but did not leave the building. Later in the day, Simmons apologized to Reid and team leadership by saying he could have handled the situation better.
Simmons — who hasn't appeared in a game this season due to calf discomfort — was placed on injured reserve the next day with a bulging, herniated disk in his back.
The IR trip won't be season ending, though, with Simmons eligible to return for the Week 11 matchup against the Cardinals.
