Colorado linebacker Gideon Lampron was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after recording a career-high 15 tackles in Saturday's 27-24 overtime victory over Kansas State.
Lampron finished with four tackles for loss, including two sacks, as the Buffaloes ended their five-game losing streak and earned their first Big 12 conference win of the season. His tackle total was the third-highest by a Big 12 player this year, and his four tackles for loss were the most by a Colorado linebacker since Nate Landman in 2021.
Lampron helped establish Colorado's early defensive pressure, stopping starting quarterback Dillon Duff a yard short on third-and-2 during Kansas State's opening possession. The Wildcats went three-and-out on each of their first three drives.
Both sacks came against replacement quarterback Blake Barnett and helped end Kansas State possessions. A 7-yard loss in the third quarter created third-and-18, while an 11-yard sack late in the fourth quarter left the Wildcats facing third-and-21 with Colorado leading 21-14. Kansas State punted both times.
"I'm proud of this team," Lampron said after the game. "I just want to win games, and yeah, whatever I can do to help the team."
Lampron leads Colorado with 81 tackles and helped hold Kansas State to a field goal on the opening overtime possession. Before that series, defensive coordinator Chris Marve delivered a challenge Lampron recalled afterward: "This moment will say a lot about who you are."
Colorado followed the stop with Isaac Wilson's winning touchdown pass to Charlie Williams. The Buffaloes, now 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12, visit Arizona State on Saturday.
