Viktor Gyokeres wants to leave Arsenal in January as a result of limited gametime, reports suggest.

The Swedish striker was the talk of north London last summer, with the Gunners eventually securing a £63.5million deal with Sporting CP for the 28-year-old after a long and drawn-out transfer saga.

However, Gyokeres has struggled to find his footing in Mikel Arteta's set-up over the past 12 months - with his future at the Emirates Stadium coming into speculation.

This season alone, Gyokeres has been limited to just 56 Premier League minutes in total, unsurprisingly returning no goals or assists despite his best efforts.

Arsenal also invested a large chunk of their attention in attempting to sign Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez this summer, only to come up trumps given the La Liga giants' reluctance to sell, coupled with the Argentine striker's destination of choice landing in the form of Barcelona.

With the Mattress Makers confirming that they have no interest in selling their star man to their Catalan rivals, coupled with a fragile relationship with fans as a result of this summer's ambitions to make his way to the Camp Nou, Arsenal could find themselves with a good chance of securing Alvarez in January, should they fancy another bite of the cherry.

That would also all but confirm Gyokeres' position with his current club, given Alvarez would likely lead the line for Arteta upon his arrival considering the sizeable transfer fee Atleti would command.

As per TEAMtalk, Atletico Madrid also remains a potential landing spot for Gyokeres in the event that he parts ways with Arsenal.

The Spanish side shared an interest in the centre-forward when they met with Andrea Berta this summer, with talks also frequenting a potential move for Alvarez.

However, other clubs across the Premier League, Italy and Germany also harbour an interest in Gyokeres, meaning Arsenal could be in for a busy month when the transfer window reopens at the turn of 2027.

Despite thriving in the Nations League with Sweden, bagging four goals in four games over the course of the recent international break, Arteta continues to put his faith in Kai Havertz as a false-nine as opposed to allowing Gyokeres to lead the line.

Whether the head coach strays from that gameplan when the Gunners travel to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest on Sunday, October 18, remains to be seen.
