Jacksonville wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. was held without a catch during the Jaguars’ Week 9 33-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Thomas has seemingly been expunged from the Jaguars’ offensive playbook, and the game against the Ravens was the third time in his last four games that the wide receiver had gone without a catch.

Recently, The Athletic senior NFL writer Jonathan Jones reported that people around the league expect Thomas to be traded before the deadline, including one rival executive who predicted Jacksonville would send him to a non-contender.

NFL Executive Predicts Brian Thomas Jr. Jaguars Exit

In his article this week, Jones revealed that a rival team executive believes that the Jags will trade Thomas to a non-contender.

“They’ll trade him,” one rival team executive says. “But probably to a noncontender.”

Jones further revealed that while the Jags were playing the waiting game with Thomas, the rest of the league seems certain that the wide receiver will be traded after falling down the depth chart behind Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington.

Despite league-wide expectations that Thomas could be moved, Jacksonville has remained reluctant to sell and continues to view his downfield presence as useful to the offense.

In an extensive article on Friday, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer linked the Kansas City Chiefs to Thomas and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs, but insisted that the Jaguars were playing hardball with their asset.

“Kansas City had interest in Jacksonville’s Brian Thomas Jr., but the Jaguars have been less inclined to sell on the former first-rounder,” Breer wrote.

“While he hasn’t been statistically productive, and isn’t the best fit for Liam Coen’s scheme, Thomas brings a downfield element that’s really important in keeping defenses honest against the run, and opening things up underneath for Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington. So now Downs, who’d probably cost a fourth-round pick, would loom as a possibility for the Chiefs.”

Thomas has accumulated just 37 combined receiving yards in his last six games for the Jaguars. Jones reported that Thomas has one catch in his last 112 snaps and 10 catches in 203 offensive plays for Jacksonville.

In total, the former LSU Tigers star has 117 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns on 10 receptions, in a unit that has earned PFN’s NFL Offense Impact grade of 83.3 (No. 6 in the NFL) this season.

The one-time Pro Bowler was selected No. 23 overall by the Jaguars in the 2024 NFL Draft and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. He set several Jaguars rookie records, amassing 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, while finishing third in the league in receiving yards.

Thomas had a down sophomore season, managing 707 receiving yards and 2 scores on 48 receptions. His production malaise has followed him into the 2026 season, fueling speculation that Jacksonville could move him before the trade deadline.
